For any of you that have visited our website you may have already noticed the bear and may be wondering why he is there. Well wonder no longer, today is the day that we uncover the mystery behind the bear.
It was around 7:00 one summer morning and we were all getting ready to leave the house for work. Kimberly, a family friend who was living with us at the time, left already for work. I was sitting at the computer in the kitchen when suddenly Kimberly comes running back into the house yelling, "George! A bear!" I get up from my chair and my father (George) who was coming in from feeding the chickens, walks right through the house and goes to Kimberly at the front door.
She told us how there was a black bear sitting in the middle of the road and it had gotten up and started walking towards the house. We naturally were curious so we went to look for it. The woods were lush with thorns and growth so it was hard to see through the summer foliage, however we could hear it's footsteps as he was making his way towards the back by the chickens. I ran towards the coop and the opening of the woods where I could get a possible sight of the bear. It took him a few minutes but he came through and just walked right on by having no interest in us or the chickens.
What a great way to start out the day. We told everyone about our passing friend. The Henry Hall song, "Teddy Bear Picnic" was in my head from that day and it never left. In fact, I'm singing it to myself now...
If you go down in the woods today, you're sure of a big surprise
If you go down in the woods today, you'd better go in disguise
For every bear that ever there was will gather there for certain
Because today's the day the teddy bears have their picnic
So we have been messing around with logos and images for branding. I could go into all the various things we tried out, like the weeping cherry blossom that sits in front of our house, or the various types of animals that come through or live in the old woods but thinking back on this story we were all really fond of the bear. So meet George, a bear. Our bear.
